Skiing in Pakistan

Skiing is gaining popularity in Pakistan.   Northern parts of Pakistan offer many places where skiing adventurer can enjoy this fascinating sport.   For most of locals and novice skiers, the places like Natiagali in Galliyat, Malam Jabba in Swat and Nalter in Gilgit provide best places to learn and practice the arts and science of skiing.  For seasoned skiers, the lofty mountains like K-2, Nanag Parabt,  Gasherbrum series peaks, Laila peak etc of Himalaya and Karakoram ranges provide excellent slopes for testing their skills with high adrenaline rush.  Moreover, there are plenty of other sites and opportunities available for cross country skiing in the Gilgit -Baltistan region for experienced and avid skiers.

Malam Jabba Ski Resort  is a ski resort situated in the Hindu Kush range of the Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan at a top elevation of 2,804 metres (9,199 ft).  The resort is located in Malam Jabba village, 40 kilometers east of Saidu Sharif and 314 kilometers northwest of Islamabad. It is the  oldest ski resort in Pakistan that offers slopes of about one kilometer to the skiers.  A fine hotel, run by PTDC, offers excellent dinning, boarding and lodging facility. The resort was equipped with modern facilities including roller/ice-skating rinks, chair lifts, skiing platforms, telephones and snow clearing equipment.

Naltar Ski Resort   is  situated in the Karakoram range of the Naltar Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan province, Pakistan at a top elevation of 2,950 metres (9,680 ft).  The resort is located, 40 kilometers northwest of Gilgit and is only accessible 4×4 jeeps or SUVs. It also serves as the main facility for the Ski Federation of Pakistan and the Pakistan National Ski Championship   Every year, in winter, various national and even international ski championships  are held here under the arrangements of Pakistan Air Force.

Skiers before Competition

Helicopter skiing from very high altitude is also available in Pakistan where helicopters of Pakistan Army Aviation drop skiers at selected places on high altitude and then they can traverse snow downhill at lightening fast spend.
