Kharmang

The beautiful Kharmang Valley  is  about 120 kilometers from Skardu and it is one of five main valleys in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan.   “Kahrmang” is a Balti word that consists of two parts (khar means “fort” and mang means “abandoned “).   The name Kharmang was given to the valley in the era of Ali Sher Khan Anchan, who built many small forts in this region because of its strategic importance.   Major tourist destinations include Manthokha Waterfall, Khamosh Waterfall, Mehdiabad valley and Olding from where the Indus River enters into Pakistani territory from Leh District of Indian Occupied Kashmir.  Total population of the area consists of around 200,000 peaceful, fun loving and hospitable people whose livelihood depends upon agriculture and livestock farming mostly.  Besides apricots, the valley is famous for its apples, especially the apples of “Pari Village” due to their attractive colour and superb taste.   Tourists are advised to carry their tents in the area as proper hotels are not available in this district.
