Gorikot is the capital and largest village of the Astore District. It is a gateway to Nanga Parbat Tarishing Base camp and to Deosai Plain that link Astore to Skardu. It has lush green plains with beautiful scenic views in the high mountains.  People of this area live a very simple life. They cultivate potatoes and wheat as their staple food. Fruits like apricot, cherries, and apples are available in abundance in this area.

Rama Meadows

If one finds oneself in plain, ice-cold and milk-white water flowing in streams, sheep and cows grazing in peace, pine trees, Chongra’s ice-covered peak in background  and Nanga Parbat’s southern ridge is in view, then he or she is surely at Rama Meadow, just 13 kilometers from hustle and bustle of the town of Astore. Rama meadows are thickly forested with huge pine, cedar, fir and juniper trees. This place  is about 3300 meters   above sea level and thus is snow covered for 7–8 months of the year. In summer, it becomes lush green and scenic.

Rama Lake

Rama Lake is another beautiful destination in the district Astore close to Choungrah village.  It is lightly covered with oak trees and other greenery.   It is a secluded and very quiet place.   Fewer tourists come to its side and that point makes it unique.   From this place, one can commence trekking to Nanga Parbat from eastern side as well.

Gudai Village

Gudai is a beautiful village in the Astore District of Pakistan located at the distance of 16 km from Gorikot and 27 km from Astore village.  The nearest villages are Shekong, Khuma, Karbay, Bomray, Booban, and Dass Kharym.  It is the headquarters of Gudai union council.  Gudai  was a district headquarters before the partition of 1947.   A rest house of that time is also available in the area which is under the use to government officials now.  Gudai is famous for the fresh water and trout fish in the area. It is a gateway to Deosai Plain.

The Gudai River is the source of fresh water for domestic purposes. In summer local people as well as tourists catch trout fish from the river. People travel to this village for trout fishing, as well as for getting original raw precious stones from locals who collect these from nearby mountains.

The area is not much developed.   There are no hotels in the villages of this districts except Astore and Gorikot.   However, people are much hospitable and they will not only offer your tea or meal but they will invite you to sleep in one of their rooms in their home.    Astore is little different from rest of the Gilgit Baltistan so tourists are advised not to take picture of any female without seeking permission. There is zero crime rate in this area as well and one can roam around without any worry.  Best time to visit Astore is from May to October.
